This week's Health & Wellness Series guest speaker is Leslie Spoone, Certified Aerobics Instructor & Personal Trainer. Leslie has owned a women's gym and has taught fitness classes for several years. She currently teaches classes for the American Council of the Blind (ACB) community including chair yoga, resistance training cardio exercises. She is also the co-chair of the ACB Get Up and Get Moving Committee which was created to increase physical well-being by creating opportunities for physical activity through safe peer-to-peer and social events, leveraging technology, when possible, to make mobility easy. Are you attending White Cane Safety Walk this Saturday? If so, please share this post with your family and friends so we have a large presence! Florida Statue 316.1301 Traffic regulations to assist blind persons. In summary, the Florida white cane law protects blind or visually impaired pedestrians and requires drivers to stop for anyone carrying a white cane or being guided by a service dog at an intersection. A violation of this law is a misdemeanor. Fines increase if the violation results in injury to the pedestrian. The walk will begin at the Leroy Collins Leon County Public Library (downtown) parking lot. The group photo will be at 9:45 am on the steps facing the parking lot. The group will leave the parking and take a left on Duval Street, then left on Call Street, left on Bronough, left on Park Avenue, and then travel across Duval Street and end the walk at the Downtown Market. Join us for our monthly COMS Saturday for individuals with vision loss to safely and independently navigate your home and community. You will learn orientation and mobility skills and your family and/or friends are welcome to attend and learn sighted guide techniques to assist you!
